About Yi
I was fortunate during my undergraduate years at UC San Diego to work at the Don Norman funded Design Lab, where I began conducting user research with people living with diabetes. That experience opened my eyes to what design truly means - understanding people’s lives and co-creating better ways to support them.
Product design feels natural to me - it lets me do what I love most: connect with people, observe how they interact with the world, and continuously iterate on ideas that make their experiences a little better.
When I’m not designing, you’ll probably find me watching Morning Brew and Business Insider on Youtube, or people watching around New York City…yes…because I’m always curious about things…
Inspired by my brother: why storytelling is at the heart of my design.
I have a little brother who’s only 10 years old. He loves reading books and picks one up whenever he can. While there are many different genres, every book is ultimately trying to tell a story — and that’s what draws him in.
From watching him, I realized how powerful storytelling can be. It’s not just about words; it’s a way to communicate design, align business goals with stakeholders, and build trust within a team.
Give me the opportunity for an interview, and I’ll show you how I use storytelling to bring my designs to life. 😜
